What are MMA and UFC?
Mixed martial arts (MMA)—as many of you ACTION SPORTS LOVING fans might already be knowing full well—is a full-contact combat sport that allows striking and grappling, both standing and, on the ground, using techniques from various combat sports and martial arts. The first documented use of the term mixed martial arts was in a review of UFC 1 by television critic Howard Rosenberg in 1993. The term gained popularity when newfullcontact.com, then one of the largest websites covering the sport, hosted and republished the article. The question of who actually coined the term is subject to debate.
Many of the MMA and UFC fans who come to the best streaming site ever—SuperChilling (this very site)—search for terms like, “mmastreams, mmastreams reddit, r/mmastreams, reddit mmastreams, r mmastreams, reddit ufc, stream /r/mmastreams, reddit/r/mmastreams, mmastreams site:reddit.com, reddit/mmastreams, reddit ufc stream, /r mmastreams , mmastreams on reddit, reddit mma streams, mmastreams redit, reddit mma streams, /mmastreams, reddit r/mmastreams, reddit r mmastreams, reddit.com/r/mmastreams, r/ mmastreams”
What is /r/MMAStreams on reddit?
We wish to tell you that you’ve come to the absolute right place. First, let’s get the most important thing out of the way—the ban of /r/MMAStreams community (also called subreddit) on the reddit platform.
With reddit getting increasingly popular, its censorship has also gone up tremendously. Reddit now gets billions of page views everyday and is a rapidly growing anonymous social network, especially with the ongoing backlash against PUBLIC FACING social networking sites like Facebook, Google+ etc. Now, in 2018 and early 2019, reddit started getting a TONNE of DMCA and Copyright take down requests from the creators of MMA-based Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), “William Morris Endeavor.” Ever since the takedown requests started mowing down reddit’s admin capacity, the team at reddit decided to BAN the entire subreddit of /r/MMAStreams.
And the commercial and modern-day presentation of Mixed Martial Arts is called Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Again, I’m sure many of you MMA fans might already be knowing about this, but just to refresh things up a bit, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is an American mixed martial arts promotion company based in Las Vegas, Nevada, that is owned and operated by parent company William Morris Endeavor. It is the largest MMA promotion company in the world and features the highest-level fighters on the roster. The UFC produces events worldwide that showcase twelve weight divisions and abide by the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts. As of 2018, the UFC has held over 400 events. Dana White serves as the president of the UFC. White has held that position since 2001; while under his stewardship, the UFC has grown into a globally popular multi-billion-dollar enterprise.
Why watch MMA?
The first event was held in 1993 at the McNichols Sports Arena in Denver, Colorado. The purpose of the early Ultimate Fighting Championship competitions was to identify the most effective martial art in a contest with minimal rules and no weight classes between competitors of different fighting disciplines like boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, sambo, wrestling, Muay Thai, karate, and judo. In subsequent events, fighters began adopting effective techniques from more than one discipline, which indirectly helped create an entirely separate style of fighting known as present-day mixed martial arts. In 2016, UFC's parent company, Zuffa, was sold to a group led by William Morris Endeavor (WME–IMG) for $4.025 billion. During the early 20th century, various mixed-style contests took place throughout Japan, Taiwan, and in the countries of the Four Asian Tigers. In Brazil, there was the sport of Vale Tudo, in which fighters from various styles fought with little to no rules. The Gracie family was known to promote Vale Tudo matches as a way to promote their own Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu style. An early high-profile mixed martial arts bout was Masahiko Kimura vs. Hélio Gracie in 1951, fought between judoka Masahiko Kimura and Brazilian jiu jitsu founder Hélio Gracie in Brazil. In the West, the concept of combining elements of multiple martial arts was popularized by Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do during the late 1960s to early 1970s. A precursor to modern MMA was the 1976 Muhammad Ali vs. Antonio Inoki bout, fought between boxer Muhammad Ali and wrestler Antonio Inoki in Japan, where it later inspired the foundation of Pancrase in 1993 and Pride Fighting Championships in 1997.
Current Status of /r/MMAStreams
Now, whenever you visit that URL – https://reddit.com/u/mmastreams – you get this screen, confirming that the admins at reddit did indeed ban the entire subreddit.
It can be frustrating, but it was expected as big corporations take control of the once free internet. There are however many legitimate ways to watch MMAstreams. One is to go to the official MMA website that hosts high quality HD VODs as well as other auxiliary content on their platform, which can also be accessed through an application on Android, Windows and Apple’s iOS platform.
We hope this article on your favorite site gave you a nice primer on the whole MMA and UFC business as well as the unfortunate shutting down of /r/MMAStreams. Be sure to subscribe for the latest on streaming on SuperChillin.
